Second iteration of Asian Artists' Fund will distribute further $650,000
Foundation North and Creative New Zealand are pleased to announce that the Asian Artists’ Fund will open for a second time.
Evidence shows that Asian artists are under-represented in arts funding in Aotearoa. Foundation North and Creative New Zealand are investing a further $650,000 to support and target initiatives that are by, with and for Asian Arts communities in Auckland and Northland. We are delighted to be able to increase the funding available in the second iteration of the fund and continue to collectively celebrate the unique diversity within the Asian Arts sector in Aotearoa.
The Asian Artists' Fund 2.0 is co-designed with the community for whom it is intended. In response to feedback on the first process, we have involved the community from the beginning of the fund design.
Applications for this fund will open in early December 2022. Once the fund is open, Outreach Advisors will be available to assist with pre-application support, we will also be holding online and in-person hui for applicants to learn more about the fund and ask specific questions about projects they are proposing.
Applications will be peer assessed by Asian arts practitioners and these assessments will support funding recommendations to Foundation North.
The first round of the fund was hugely successful and attracted requests from emerging, mid-career, and senior artists for wide-ranging projects and initiatives across many different art forms. We received 81 requests totaling $1.9 million - well above the funding allocation. The total pool of $430,000 enabled the funding of 23% of applications received.
We are currently confirming hui dates and will provide more information as it becomes available. Please follow our website and socials to receive updates.
