Foundation North’s “beautiful building” a winner

29 October 2015   /   News & reports

Foundation North’s Allendale Annexe has been awarded the 2015 Auckland Architecture Award for commercial architecture.

3 June 2015

The award was announced on the 28th of May at the MOTAT Aviation Hall in Western Springs, Auckland.

The judges said that Salmond Reed Architects produced another successful marriage of heritage architecture and modern building elements and that Allendale Annexe is a “beautifully built two-storey building” and displays a “modesty and restraint appropriate to its occupant and a great respect for its Victorian neighbour."

Forty-four awards were shared among 20 firms for projects that ranged from modestly scaled home additions to large infrastructural works.

The Annexe project will automatically be moved on to the national awards where it will be evaluated against the commercial section winners from around the country usually in November.

Awards convenor Tony van Raat, the head of Unitec's Department of Architecture said the standard of entries this year was very high.

"There were many projects of outstanding merit which revealed the skill, care and insights of their architect,” van Raat says.

“New Zealand society continues to be well served by the profession, and in the Auckland region we were pleased to see that high standards are now common practice.”

This is the fourth award Foundation North has received for its buildings.
